One of the things we are most looking forward to with all of our new found space is the fact that we can have an office!  The only problem is that Michael has this very specific idea of what this room is going to look like and what all of the office furniture will look like.  That whole idea doesn’t include space for my desk either!  No joke…

Bush Furniture Saratoga Executive Home Office Wood Manager's Desk in Cherry

This desk above from the Bush Furniture Collection is almost identical to the desk that he got from his GrandFather and that gives you an idea of what the office will look like.  It’s also very similar to what his Dad’s decorating style is and what influences his current decisions.   Some of his ideas like this bush desk are OK but he thinks everything that he grew up with at his Parent’s house is going to fly in ours… no way Jose.  It’s bad enough we have the same layout as his Parent’s old house.

Marriage is all about compromise right?  Well I have to have my desk in the guest bedroom until we have to turn that room into a kid’s room because they outgrew the nursery room.  I have a whole rotation plan for moving the kids around in the bedrooms.  Our nursery is staying the nursery the whole time we are in this house due to our baby making schedule!

So I always stop into PetSmart after my obgyn appointments to say hi to the old co-workers.  There is a pretty sweet deal if you are a cat owner!  I have personally never used ExquisiCat litter but I made sure to purchase the scoopable kind versus some of the other choices.

I had already posted about this $25 mail in rebate on Facebook but if you don’t have a printer you are still in luck because I found some in the stores too.   You don’t have to compromise your litter preferences either because there are multiple types included in their rebate.  I don’t care how on sale litter is I will never use that crappy clay stuff because it doesn’t work.

I personally came up with $26.97 in litter so after I get the gift card in the mail I will have paid $1.97 for 80 pounds of litter.  Or if you want to get technical after tax I paid $3.49 for all of my litter which is still fabulous!  I could have gotten it all for .97 before tax if I would have gotten the box instead of the jug but the jugs are just easier to manage at home.

Here are some of the prices and sizes of the litters so you can make a good decision:

  • 20 lbs clumping litter in a jug $6.99
  • 14-31 lbs clumping litter in a box $9.99
  • 40 lbs clumping litter in a box $11.99
  • 40 lbs clumping litter in a jug $12.99
  • 8 lbs of crystal litter $13.99
  • 14 lbs of crystal litter $23.99
  • 8.5 lbs of pine litter $7.99
  • 25 lbs of pine litter $8.99
  • 14 lbs of pine litter $5.99
So if you are a clumping litter lover like me you should purchase 1 box of 40 pounds and 2 jugs of 20 pounds for $25.97 or .97 after the mail in rebate.
If you can’t find the tear pads in your store you can also print the rebate form out online. (through this link)

Yet another lame shopping trip to a drug store this week but I had a decent amount of UP rewards I had to ditch just in case.  I really wanted to take advantage of the John Frieda deal but they were all sold out.  What a bummer because I love love love root lifting foam!

So since Walgreens was all sold out of water I decided to pick up a case over at Rite Aid since they had their store brand on sale for $2.88.  Let me tell you … it is gross water.  I am soooo very picky about my water and this tastes terrible.  Even the couple of bottles I grabbed because I was thirsty were gross.  Tap water in bottles.

I can’t wait until we get a water system in this house so I can stop buying all of this water.  I want one of those 5 gallon jug systems but Michael thinks it is silly.  But he also won’t drink the well water either so I guess I am winning as of now.

HOLY Cow: I just looked at my receipt an realized royally screwed up!  I grabbed water that rang up for $4.49 and $4.04 after 10% discount!  Dang…  That’s what I get for shopping with the worst back pains ever I guess.  Oh will this baby just come out so I can focus again.

Transaction:

Simplify Gallon of Water .89
Crystal Lake 24pk water $4.04
2 Crystal Lake bottles of water $1
Oral B Pulsar toothbrush $4.99
Used $2 coupon for Pulsar
Paid with $7 Up rewards
OOP = $2.22
Will submit for $4.50 SCR
Final Total = $2.28 MM

I was so surprised to see there were still Oral B Indicator toothbrushes at the store when I went!  I figured since they were 100% free with the $2 coupon that they would be gone gone gone.  I had no desire to pick up the free male enhancement product this week so I just stuck to my free toothbrushes this week!  BORING!

I love my Husband so much because he went out Monday and got a rain check for the $1.99 cases of water.  The cases are still on sale for the rest of the week just for $2.49 now.  But of course they still are all out in all of the stores.

A very rare thing occurred while at Walgreens too!  The cashier was knowledgeable about coupons and he wasn’t all bent out of shape about them.  What a pleasure to chat with!

Transaction:

4 Oral B Indicator toothbrushes $4
1 Oral B Advantage 123 toothbrush $2.99
Used 3 $2 coupons from 7/3 PG
OOP = $1.41
Earned $1 RR for next time

So crazy me decided to go shopping after my obgyn appointment yesterday and that was a pretty bad idea but I survived!  I stopped at all three drug stores: CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens.

Like I mentioned in the deals that I already had posted for these stores the deals are rather lacking this week across the board!  With that in mind I was pleasantly surprised at CVS with some great coupons to print from the magic coupon machine!  So I will start with my CVS trip!

You should always always scan your card at the beginning of your trip because you never know what surprises you are going to get!  This time it also printed my quarterly ECBs that I earned from shopping at CVS.  You earn a percentage of what you spend at CVS back in ECBs each quarter.  I had only earned .50 but the whole goal is to not spend a lot OOP so you shouldn’t get a high value back each quarter.

So the coupon printed out a $2 off coupon for Pantene, Aussie or Herbal Essence Hair Care item.  I was able to  stack this coupon with the $3/2 coupon from 7/3 PG for a total of $5/2.  So I used those coupons in conjunction with the ECB deal on Herbal Essence/Aussie.  So OOP for 2 items was $1.97 and I earned a $1 ECB bringing the final total to .97/2 or .49 each.  I was stoked because I just ran out!

The coupon machine also printed out a $1.50 off a Gillette body wash  coupon that I could stack with the $1 coupon from the 7/3 PG.  They were on sale for $3 so total OOP was .50 for body wash.

The third fantastic coupon that printed out was for a 100% FREE Hershey’s Air Delight bar!  Umm.. delightful!

I ended up spending $2.43 OOP for everything which is OK I guess.  I am trying to not have store dollars like ECBs, RRs or UP rewards around the house just in case I get a surprise birth and they just expire.  What a waste!

CVS Transactions:

#1

2 Herbal Essence Stylers $6.97
Used $2 CVS coupon
Stacked with $3/2 coupon from 7/3 PG
Paid w/ .50 quarterly ECBs
OOP = $1.86
Earned $1 ECB

#2

Hershey bar $1.19
2 Coke 2 Liters $1.38
Gillette body wash $3
Used free CVS Hershey coupon
Used b1g1 Coke 2 Liter coupon from Recyclebank
Used $1.50 CVS coupon for Gillette
Stacked with $1 coupon for Gillette from 7/3 PG
Paid with $1 ECB from #1
OOP = .57

37 weeks 2 days & getting low!

So yesterday I went in for my weekly check up and I was 37 weeks and 4 days along.  I knew that the doctor would be checking my cervix and I had my fingers crossed so tightly in hopes of some good news as far as progress goes.  I really just wanted to hear ‘progress’ type things to keep me sane!

Statistics:

  • 7 pounds gained = 28 pounds total
  • Perfect BP and urine
  • 158 heart rate for the baby
  • Head is still down
  • Measuring at 38 inches
  • 3 cm dilated
  • 50% effaced
  • Cervix is ready for labor!

I was absolutely shocked to learned that I had gained SEVEN POUNDS in two weeks!!!!  Oh my goodness!  I was doing fabulous and was still at a pound or two a week until yesterday.  So I have now gained 28 pounds and I am sad to think that I am not going to stay under my 30 pound goal.  This baby sure is getting chunky!

I know I wrote a post previously about my false labor ordeal (find it through this link) and I was thrilled to learn that in just about a week’s time I had dilated to 3 cm and I am now 50% effaced.  This was like music to my ears!  He said my cervix was nice and soft and he could feel the baby while he was down there.

It was the weirdest feeling when he was checking my cervix because while he was in there he asked ‘do you want me to strip your membrane?‘  say what?  Forgive my ignorance but I stopped researching about half way through because the information on the internet just causes you more grief than it does to answer your questions.  So I had him strip my membrane while he was fishing around in there.  FYI: not the most comfortable thing but manageable.

I really got a kick out of the stripping portion of my vaginal check.  Once he started stripping the child went NUTS!  It started rolling around and kicking and didn’t stop for 9 hours!  I kid you not.  The baby was running a marathon for 9 hours!!!  For anyone who has yet to experience stripping I will warn you it comes with some cramping and spotting afterwards.

When I was there this time I noticed that my Doctor’s medical assistant had gotten a little belly in her fashion scrubs!  I was hesitant to ask her if she were pregnant because if I were wrong I would never forgive myself.  Sure enough she is 26 weeks along and only at 8 pounds gained!  Good for her and of convenient to work at an obgyn!

I had woken up with incredible back pain and that continued throughout the rest of the afternoon.  I attempted to get some of my deal shopping done this afternoon and as I was walking through the stores I would get these quick and sharp shooting pains down my tush.  This was a little different because they had typically been in my thighs before that.  Anyone walking by me in the store must have thought I was a weirdo because the pain would buckle my knees and I was so thankful for the cart!

I have more yard work planned for this weekend in hopes of progressing this a little further.  One of my girlfriends is bringing me over a stability ball as well so I can bounce around on it while I am blogging and watching TV.  I’m not brave enough to try Castor Oil even though lots of women do!  I wish we could continue with the sperm but Michael said no way Jose.  He was weirded out once the baby dropped and now that I have dilated a little he is really really not turned on!

Stay tuned because the baby is on it’s way any day now!

I hope you were either able to relax this holiday weekend or take full advantage of the long weekend and get something accomplished!  We have very few weekends left before this baby joins us in the world so we spent it doing some much needed yard work.  I don’t think I am ‘nesting’ inside the house because all I want to do it work in the yard.  It’s silly to me to be working inside when it’s Summer time.  When it is cold and snowy I will finish unpacking and getting all of those little details of cleaning done!

I have to show you just how much we got accomplished this weekend because it sure is incredible!  Now keep in mind Michael did have to do 85% of the work himself but I helped when I could!  I wasn’t about to over work and send myself to the hospital again for false labor!  Instead I just have the most swollen feet and ankles you could possibly imagine!  ha!

(The Patio Before)

(The Patio After)

So the house clearly wasn’t taken care of when we bought it and everything was overgrown to the point of wanting to close the blinds so you did not have to look at it!  We Michael had to pull out two bushes around the patio, a good size pine tree and break up the soil as much as we could in hopes that the weeds don’t return.

As you can imagine this poor guy is hurting pretty bad today after a weekend of pretty intense physical labor.  He sure is becoming quite the man’s man on the weekend and computer nerd by day!  Even though my hands and feet are beyond swollen I still gave him a little back rub for all of his hard work this holiday weekend!

Frugal Tips:

  1. Go in on a mulch delivery with your neighbors to save of the total cost of your mulch.  We didn’t because our neighbors got a delivery right after we moved in and regret it 100%.  The cheapest we have found sold by the bag is $2 for 1.5 cubic foot of Cypress Mulch.  And we used about 13 bags just on this patio renovation… ouch!
  2. Ask your friends and family if they have any plants that need to be split!  Usually people with established gardens have those giant hostas or lily plants and could spare a small portion of them.  All of the hostas pictured in this patio project are from the side of the house and were buried under all of the weeds!  No since in spending money if people are just splitting and tossing!
  3. Start simple!  We didn’t do anything fancy with our garden beds but I can tell you the difference is night and day now!  We both agreed that there is no point in getting all fancy right away.  We will do our research and add things slowly.
  4. Borrow tools!  Do we own a rototiller?  Umm… no.  Does my Step Dad?  Yes!  Shovels, rakes and other tools all cost money and need to be acquired over time to help you from breaking the budget.
  5. Burn!  I hate spending money on those yard work bags!  Thankfully his Mother bought the ones we used up this weekend!  We called and found out our township will allow you to buy a 3 day brush burning permit for $5 so by golly we are hoarding most of the debris in the back of the property for next weekend and will have a bon fire!

Here are my favorite deals at Walgreens this week.  You can see the full ad through this link.

Shopping tips:

  • Walgreens has a program called Register Rewards, RR.  These rewards print out at the end of your transaction and can be used on future purchases.  RRs are viewed as a coupon to the register and you are only allowed one coupon per item in your transaction.  You will want to add a small item to your purchase to prevent the beeping of the register.  You can always find .33 candies at the register if need be.
  • You are not able to ‘roll’ RRs from one deal into another of the same.  For example: if I get $4 RR for buying a razor I would not want to use that RR coupon on another purchase of a razor.  If I do that another RR coupon for $4 WILL NOT print out.  It is always beneficial to stagger transactions if you want multiple items (buy a razor in the first then buy another RR deal in the second and so on)
  • You are allowed to stack Walgreen’s coupons with manufacturer coupons.  You also will only need to give them one Walgreen’s coupon per transaction and it will take of the coupon value for each of the items in your transaction.  So if I am buying 4 packs of diapers and I have a $2 coupon it would deduct $8 on this order.
  • I recommend printing out the Walgreens Coupon Policy and taking it with you

In my opinion it is not a good week at Walgreens!  The only thing I am running in for this week will be $1.99 cases of water and that sale price ends today.

So I am going to have a baby in 24 days and bottles were something I toyed with this whole pregnancy.  What type of bottles do I use?  I am all about asking other Mom’s their experiences and we did settle upon Dr Brown’s bottles.  Then I got asked to help promote this new bottle that is very similar to a Mother’s Breast: speed dating over 40 brisbane

Priska Diaz is the Mom behind the development of this new bottle.  Before I decided to post and help promote this project I went to real life Mom’s and asked them about their past experiences and how this product would measure up.  The opinions of this bottle’s concept were very positive.  I was happy to hear the positive feedback too because it means I had a good opinion too!  :)

The BARE's nipple extends up to twice its length

Personally, my favorite feature of the bottle is the nipple.  If all goes well I do plan to breast feed and pump for as long as I can to feed the baby once it arrives.  I keep hearing about ‘nipple confusion’ and how some Mom’s don’t want to give their babies pacifiers in the beginning.  Well I believe that the extending nipple on this bottle is going to help with that!

The specially punctured Perfe-latch™ nipple works in synergy with tip extension and Air-plug™ action to only dispense milk upon suckling, like mother’s breast.

This bottle isn’t on the market yet but you can pre order your bottles through the Kickstarter program- speed dating over 40 brisbane The program is currently being funded for the December 2011 production and distribution to the financial backers.  You can look forward to a small distribution of these bottles coming in January 2012.  I personally have backed this project financially and I can’t wait to try my bottle once it arrives later this year!

I highly recommend checking out all of the facts on this bottle on the Kickstarter site as well because there are a lot of other benefits to this bottle that I didn’t highlight.  I told you my favorite point and you should read up on it and do your own research as well.  To help aid you in your research I have included some of my personal findings from veteran Mom’s.

  • One thing is the nipple…how it lengthens when baby sucks. VERY similar to breast. I think you will find (OK, hope we are all women here…lol) that your nipples will be elongated after nursing.
  • These looks like a great product.  I like the way the shape of the nipple is so similar the real deal.  My daughter was bottle picky when it was time for me to go back to work.
  • I like the concept but with bottles, etc. you really have to try them because it depends on the baby just as much as the product itself. But like I said, I like the concept!

So Michael and I have talked about the whole TV thing I talked about in a previous post and have decided we really don’t want one in our living room.  We have actually found ourselves sitting in that room now that it is cleaned out.  But we need a speed dating over 40 brisbane in there because there is no place for you to set you beverage or any other item besides the floor.

I really don’t know what type we want to put in that room because we don’t know what our furniture is going to look like.  They make so many different speed dating over 40 brisbane it is nuts.  My Mother in Law bought us this nifty table that had a metal inset down the middle and you could fill it with water or even plant flowers in it!  The cats don’t let us have plants in the house so I just put some fake flowers and stones in it.

So many choices for furniture in general and we have no idea just yet.  We have to repair the wood floors in there still, then we have to paint, then we have to figure out furniture placement with what we have and eventually we will buy new stuff and make it what we want!

S0 after hearing back from the Obgyn on call we got in the car and traveled down to the hospital at 2:44 am.  There are pros and cons to this trip but the cons are the most memorable!

It took us 40 minutes in the middle of the night to get there and I hope that when the real thing starts it isn’t during the hours of 5am and 11pm.    We got sooo very lucky because we hit 1 stop light and there were zero cars on the road.  It still felt like forever though.  Any sort of traffic is going to put it at an hour drive and if I get rush hour… oh boy I don’t want to imagine that!

Sure enough I hadn’t sent in my paperwork so I had to fill it out once we got there.. ugh.  Standing wasn’t the most enjoyable task by any means.  Once I got into triage they hooked me up to the monitors and had me sit there for 30 minutes to monitor the contractions.  For 30 minutes we got to listen to the baby’s heartbeat which is pretty cool but that little baby was all over the board!  It has typically had a heart rate of 145-160 every time we were at out obgyn appointments.  This baby was ranging from 145-180!  I have no idea why the heart beat was so high for most of the 30 minutes but it wanted us to hear it in there!

Of course my contractions lose their excruciating pain and just come with bouts of tightness.  I swear I waited 3 hours of contractions before arriving!  So the nurse comes in to do the ultrasound and verify that the head is down and sure enough it is.  I could have told her that one because I feel the baby in my vagina when it wiggles around it’s head.  (that’s a bizarre feeling!)  She said I had a good amount of amniotic fluid and wanted to check my cervix.

I am not sure if this nurse just had really short fingers or what but she took forever to check my cervix.  She kept saying ‘oh it’s really far back there’  ’oh it’s just out of reach’.  Oh goodness lady you are ripping my vagina in half  with your hand!  haha  The whole checking the cervix thing is pretty uncomfortable but manageable.  Then the bad news… my cervix is still closed.  Seriously???  After all of these contractions I don’t get a little something to describe progress??

So the nurse tells me since my contractions are irregular and I am not dilated that she is discharging me.  What a waste of a trip.  She said to drink lots of water because it could be brought on by dehydration.  I just looked at her and told her ‘I am peeing clear there is no way I am dehydrated’.

Poor Michael had 3 hours of sleep and we got home right as his alarm went off to get up for work.  So he started getting ready for work as soon as we got home.  He is pooped!  But he is such a trooper because he said he would go to Rite Aid and/or Walgreens and get a few time sensitive deals this week.  The cases of water are $2.39 at Walgreens until tonight so I really really wanted to pick some up!  I might be able to get him to stop and get me the Got2Be hair spray at Rite Aid but I don’t want to take advantage of his offer.

So today I spent it laying around and sleeping.  Around 2pm this afternoon things started to get less painful so hopefully I can accomplish some things tomorrow.

26 more days…. ahhhh

So I don’t think I was fully prepared for this whole Braxton Hicks thing.  I am due in 26 days now and I think I am lucky to be getting any sort of belly pains.

Yesterday we got up early and drove down to the Rochester area to get our maternity photos taken by speed dating over 40 brisbane.  It was a lot of fun getting them done and it was such a beautiful day for pictures to be taken.  Adam is actually my photography teacher from a college class that I just took.

But as enjoyable as the photo shoot was, what started afterwards was a small dose of hell on earth.  Towards the end of the photo shoot it became very hard to smile because my belly was sooo tight.  By the time we were all done and one our way home, about 2pm, I was in pain!  It was incredibly uncomfortable but I just lounged around the house for the rest of the afternoon.

Who would have thought that this buggers would have lasted until about 10pm!  I was happy when things got settled down for me to go to bed.  BUT come 12:33 am I am rudely awoken by a sharp pain in my belly.  So downstairs I go so I can let Michael sleep.  About 1:50 am I barf up dinner but I have no idea if that is from being in pain??

So here I am 1.5 hours later still in pain.  I really am no good at this because I don’t know what to expect.  They say to track your contractions but does that mean the sharp shooting pain that is going across the belly to my back?  Or just the incredibly tight and uncomfortable tightness across my belly?

Or how about this… how do you really tell when one starts and one ends?  There isn’t really a lot of relief here.  From what terrible tracking I am doing I am having a shooting pain about every 2 minutes.  But how long they last is beyond me.  They start with a sharp pain and end in tightness???  Ugh why don’t they just make an alarm that say’s ‘you’re in labor!’.  Life would be much easier.

  • Am I ready? Yes and no.
  • Are my bags pack? No I’ve been meaning to do that.
  • Do I want to drive to Royal Oak at 2am? Umm… no.

This is a situation in my opinion.  I went upstairs to talk to Michael about it and he told me to quit moving around and said I need to relax for the next two days.  Really babe?  I wish he had an idea of what this felt like.

I guess I will go call the after hours answering service because they know more than me.  So they are having the on call doctor call me back now.

Target is well known for their clearance and I can’t go into the store without browsing every single clearance location because you never know what gem you are going to find!  I went yesterday to pick up a deal I read on another blog and left with some fantastic finds!

Always always print off the $3 coupon for any Liz Lange apparel when you see it available on Target’s website!  Even if you aren’t pregnant you can still wear a t-shirt that is friendly in the belly region.  I was able to find two shirts in the clearance for $3.24 so with my $3 coupon they only cost me .24!  You can’t even get a price like that at The Salvation Army!  I was even lucky because they were in my size!  There were other apparel pieces in other sizes too ranging in $1.50 – $10 so keep your eyes peeled.

I was amazed to find these two frames marked down so much too!  They were $1.98 each and happen to match the decor that I am putting into the guest bedroom… eventually.  I highly doubt the guest bedroom is going to get done before this baby gets here!  My store had a ton of frames in perfect condition for dirt cheap so take a peek at your store.

Another hot coupon deal that I had to get while I was there was for two bathroom shelves/towel racks.  Target had a $10 off bathroom furnishing coupon and it made one $4.99 and the other $6.99.  If you saw our bathrooms and lack of any sort of storage you would totally understand my desire for these pieces!  They are very similar to the one pictured above.  I will slowly make things livable in this house but without breaking the budget!

My tip to you is to always leave some extra time available if you are making a trip to Target because you just never know what you will find!  Oh.. and print those high value coupons and carry them with you!

This week was the week for smokers that’s for sure!  I am thrilled Michael doesn’t smoke anymore but that doesn’t mean I still don’t get all of the coupons.  Marlboro coupons go to my best friend and the Camels to whomever will use them.  Even though I strongly despise smoking and judge everyone who smokes I still don’t want you to pay full price for them.  Shoot me if that statement makes you mad but free speech is a beautiful thing :)

I was slightly bummed that the Pull Ups coupon didn’t come sooner though!  That buy 5 get $5 off sale at Kroger included Pull Ups wipes for $1.49!!  I only recently learned of this because I went to a different Kroger and they carry them.  I wish all Kroger stores would carry the same products!

This is our second magazine in the free 6 month subscription to Parents magazine from Huggies!  And Neurology Now is a free magazine all of the time if you want to sign up for it.  I don’t recommend signing up for it unless you have an interest in Neurological issues.

  1. Camel Coupons
  2. Marlboro Coupons
  3. Tena samples + coupon
  4. Pull Ups sample + coupon
  5. Turkey Hill coupons
  6. Parents Magazine
  7. Neurology Now Magazine
  8. Miracle eye cream sample
  9. Degree sample + coupon
  10. Birthday reminder tabs from Camel
